Hello and welcome to Chains of Sanity - a melodic metal project.

We started out in 2005 under the name of De-Light. During the first few years we won multiple local titles and awards in our hometown of Novosibirsk (Russia), but never tried to go professional. In 2012 everybody decided to focus on their personal lives and careers, and Chains of Sanity effectively became a studio project.

Since then we've been meeting every few months to improve lyrics, compose orchestral arrangements, do recordings, etc. And now, after six more years, we're excited to start releasing all these beautiful things that we've made. The first two singles were released under the name of "Chains of Delight", the album was released under our original name "De-Light". In 2019 we found our current name Chains of Sanity and got back to live gigging!

Ob Session

Ob Session

De-Light actively wrote songs and performed them live in early 2000s when the band members were students of Novosibirsk State University (and some years later), and the most of the songs were created in the campus life atmosphere - energetic, intellectual, emotional.

We decided to release this album under that original band name and call it Ob Session - this wordplay reflects the geographic location (river Ob) and the spirit of those days.

The cover art resembles stained glass windows of the university building, the album itself contains a power metal cover of "На Пирогова" ("Na Pirogova") - an unofficial anthem of NSU.

Like the stained glass mosaic, the tracks which all belong to different sub-genres, are united into one colorful rock soundscape.

Away Alive

Music: Dmitry Beloglazov
Lyrics: Dmitry Beloglazov

The night has brought
This moment through the years of pain
The more I thought
The more I wanted you again

My soul is lost
The breath of emptiness I feel
At any cost
I'll make this flight of fancy real

Away, forgive my love but it is still
Alive, and feels so deep and real
Away, away, forgive my love, it's deep and still
Alive, so desperate and real

Your love and light
Will guide me through this world of fears
The time is right
To be reborn and laugh in tears
Come follow me
I'll wake you from this empty dream
In agony
Of love and misery I scream
In misery I scream, yeah!

Set This Road on Fire

Music: Dmitry Beloglazov
Lyrics: Dmitry Beloglazov, Aleksander Rassokhin

Leather and steel,
And heavy metal aloud,
The power of wheels –
That's all we care about.

If your life’s gone off track,
Come with us, we've all been through it,
And the air will turn black
As tonight we’re gonna do it –

We’re gonna set this road on fire! Fire!
We’re gonna make these babies cry, yeah!
I promise you! We’re gonna set this road on fire.

Our vision is clear –
Our road is freedom and love,
The future is here,
We'll never have it enough.

Say farewell to your past -
Your real life is just beginning,
You're with brothers at last
In this song of engines screaming!

We’re gonna set this road on fire! Fire!
We’re gonna make these babies fly, yeah!
I promise you! We’re gonna set this road on fire.

We’re gonna set this road on fire! Fire!
We’re gonna make these babies fly, yeah!
I promise you!
We’re gonna set this road on fire! Fire!
We’re gonna make it heaven’s high, yeah!
I promise you! We’re gonna set this road...
We’re gonna set this world on fire!

Away Alive is the first song created by Chains of Sanity in the distant past.

Before that we played cover songs, and after one of the gigs we realized that we're ready to start writing our own songs. This first song was meant to be a gothic rock ballad, but then transformed into this energetic story with even some folk tunes.

Evgeniy Radchenko: drums
Evgeniy Odnoval: bass
Irina Lobareva: synth solo part
Alexander Rassokhin: guitars, back vocals
Dmitry Beloglazov: guitars, synths, vocals, recording mastering
Roman Kurochkin: recording, mixing assistance
Benedikt Hain: mixing

Special thanks to Susan Markle and Jane Sullivan.

Set This Road on Fire is the first single released by Chains of Sanity.

Initially we planned to release it as a part of the album, however, the recording process appeared to be rather complex, long and expensive (the recording started around 2008), and we decided to publish the first song as a single.

This song was originally written by Dmitry Beloglazov almost 20 years before the release - around 1998-1999, long before Chains of Sanity existence. It was a rock song with Russian lyrics which was played only once - on the high school graduation gig.

A few years later when De-Light was in its bloom this song was revived and heavily metalized. The lyrics were in English, but they were always temporary - every gig there were some new variations in the text. The final lyrics (as well as all of the guitar solos) were written only during the studio recording of the album.

Despite the significant changes this song still has this original feeling of freedom, power and speed.
